Satay Sauce – creamy, spicy, irresistible

This Satay Sauce makes your chicken skewers insanely good. Creamy, spicy, slightly sweet & with just the right kick – it elevates simple skewers to a whole new level. Perfect for grilling, pan-frying, or meal prep. 💪 And the best part: In the evergrate Magic Mix Bowl, everything comes together directly in one bowl – grate in garlic & ginger, stir, done. No stress. Just flavor.

What is Satay Sauce and where does it come from?

Satay Sauce is a creamy peanut sauce from Southeast Asia – originally from Indonesia, now firmly established in Thai and Malaysian cuisine. The base: peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and, depending on the recipe, some chili. The difference from a simple peanut sauce? Satay Sauce is more complex – spicier, more aromatic, with more depth due to the additional ingredients.

How does it taste – and is it spicy?

Creamy, nutty, slightly sweet with a savory depth. It's not spicy in its basic version, but chili can easily be added. So the spiciness is a matter of taste.

What can you do with Satay Sauce?

Satay Sauce classically pairs with chicken skewers, but is also perfect with beef, tofu, sautéed vegetables, or as a dip for spring rolls.

How long does Satay Sauce keep?

Homemade Satay Sauce keeps easily for 4–5 days in the refrigerator. Simply store the sauce in a sealed jar.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp creamy peanut butter
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 cm fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 3–4 tbsp warm water
  • Chicken for skewers
  • Optional: chili or chili flakes

Application Tip No. 2

Grate fresh ingredients on a damp grater.

To grate fruits and vegetables such as strawberries and apples, or ginger and garlic, moisten the grater beforehand with a drop of water, oil, lemon juice or similar. It slides better and can be easily removed with a brush.

Preparation

  1. For the satay sauce, grate garlic and ginger directly into your Magic Mix Bowl.
  2. Add peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, and honey.
  3. Add sesame oil and warm water.
  4. Mix everything thoroughly until a creamy sauce forms.
  5. Stir a little more water into the satay sauce, depending on the desired consistency.
  6. Cut chicken into pieces, skewer them, and fry them until golden brown in a pan or on the grill.
  7. Top the skewers with the satay sauce or dip directly.

Perfect with rice, bowls, vegetables, or Asian noodles.
